Herbal Remedies for Abscesses

Abscesses, commonly known as boils, are really one of most uncomfortable infections ever and unfortunately antibiotics cannot even help at all.  They are also really difficult to avoid as so many factors can cause them such as oily skin, ingrown hairs, splinters, sitting too long in one location and many more.  As long as there is an opening in the skin where bacteria has a chance to enter, the risk is extremely for getting an abscess.

Ladies Mantle

 

To make a poultice for your abscesses:

  1. Take some ladies mantle leaves sufficient enough to cover the affected abscess and rinse them well.

  2. Place them into a mortar and use a pestle to crush them into a pulp.

  3. Apply the poultice locally to the affected area.

Burdock

 

Burdock can be applied as either an infusion or a concentrated decoction that is able to help in preventing secondary infections.

 

To use as a local application:

  1. Make a poultice using cooked roots and young leaves of the burdock herbs.

  2. Pound or blend them into a pulp and apply locally 2 times daily

To prepare a concentrated decoction:

  1. Place 60 to 100 grams of burdock herbs into one liter of water and boil for about 15 minutes.

  2. Dip a small cloth into the decoction and then place the cloth on the abscess before wrapping a gauze around it then leave it on for a few hours daily for as long as needed.

Cow parsnip

 

Cow parsnip herbs are suitable for non-inflamed abscesses.  Just simply crushed some fresh cow parsnip leaves and roots and apply them to the abscess.

 

Birch buds

 

Birch buds can be used to make a decoction which is effective in soothing pain.

  1. Put 30 grams of birch buds into one liter of water and bring to boil over low heat for about 15 minutes.

  2. Drink about 4 to 5 cups through the course of the day.

Marshmallow

 

Marshmallow is a herb that can be used both internally as a flower remedy as well as externally as a compress.

 

To make a compress:

  1. Take some marshmallow leaves and soak them in very warm water.

  2. Apply the gently over the abscess.
