Herbal Remedies for Acne

The formation of whiteheads and blackheads is due to bacteria in and around the hair follicles. Basil can kill these bacteria when topically applied. Applying basil direct to the affected areas will bring out the full benefits of basil.
Use a mortar and pestle to crush some fresh burdock leaves then soak them in a little olive oil in a sealed container. Put the container in a warm place for 24 hours. Filter out the leaves and apply the remaining oil to the affected skin area. The ointment can be used for a few days.
For the case of follicular acne, use crushed burdock roots to make a paste. Apply the paste on the affected skin area and leave it on for about 30 minutes.
Wear gloves to pluck fresh nettle leaves from plants. Use only the leaves while discarding the stems. Place the nettle leaves in a teapot then pour boiling water over the nettle leaves. Leave aside for about 5 minutes, add lemon or honey as desired before drinking.
Precaution - Nettle can cause stomach irritation in some people and should not be taken by nursing women as it is also a diuretic and may cause electrolyte imbalances. Pregnant women should also avoid it as it may cause uterine contractions.
