Herbal Remedies for Psoriasis

There is no conventional medicine that is able to cure psoriasis yet surprisingly herbal remedies and homeopathic medicines can produce excellent results.  However, natural healing remedies will be less effective if you have undergoing X-ray, tar, sulfur or mercury treatments.


One of the major cause of psoriasis is heredity although there have been cases where psychological factors can also play a role hence in this aspect, homeopathy can be more effective as homeopathic medicines are often prescribe basing on the patient's character.


It would be ideal to adopt a hypotoxic diet over a 3 months period which includes plenty of fresh fruit and vegetable juices, cooked unrefined brown rice in salted water along with the following herbal remedies to help prevent psoriasis:


Aloe Vera


Aloe vera is very effective in treating many types of skin problems including psoriasis.

  1. Cut away the outer skin of an aloe vera leaf apply the aloe vera gel onto the affected psoriasis area 3 times daily.  Improvements in the skin should be seen after eight weeks of aloe vera treatment.



Cleavers cream are useful for treatment of small patches or the early stages of psoriasis.

  1. Apply a little cleavers cream onto the affected areas 2-3 times a day.



Burdock can be used both internally and externally.

  1. For internal use, boil 2 oz of fresh burdock roots for about 10 minutes

  2. For external use, use 3 oz of fresh burdock roots to one quart of water.

Figwort, burdock, yellow dock and red clover


Figwort and red clover herbs are considered as cleansing anti-inflammatory herbs and beneficial in helping psoriasis conditions.

  1. Prepare a decoction by mixing 10 grams of fresh burdock roots and 5 grams fresh yellow dock root together in a pan and add in 750 ml water.

  2. Bring to boil and simmer for 15 minutes.

  3. Put 15 grams fresh figwort and 10 grams fresh red clover flowers in a teapot or a jug.

  4. Pour the burdock and yellow dock decoction over these herbs and infuse for 10 minutes.

  5. Strain and store in a covered teapot or jug.

  6. Dosage - Take a wineglass dose 3 times daily for about 4-6 weeks and flavouring with lemon juice or honey if desired.



Violet can be utilized both externally and internally.

  1. For external use, just crush some fresh violet leaves and then apply them directly onto the affected psoriasis area.

  2. For internal use, boil 1 oz of violet leaves and flowers in one quart of water for 10 minutes then consume 3 cups in the morning before breakfast.

Wild pansy


Wild pansy is a diuretic and a depurative and is highly recommended for a variety of skin problems which includes psoriasis.

  1. Use the sap of wild pansy by putting in the fresh wild pansy herbs through an extractor and obtain about 2-3 oz of sap and applying it on the affected area daily.

  2. Prepare a wild pansy infusion by using 1 oz of wild pansy plant to one quart of water.

  3. Prepare a wild pansy decoction by using 2/3 oz of dried wild pansy per quart of water.

  4. Alternatively prepare a mixture of wild pansy, elm bark and alpine yarrow by placing a handful of each herb into an enamel pot, adding 1/2 quart of boiling water, letting it steep overnight, filtering it out through a fine cloth then sweeten with honey and consume 10-12 tablespoons a day.
