Alfalfa

 

Alfalfa herb is a folk home remedy for arthritis in southern Appalachia.  Put 1 oz of alfalfa seeds in a pot which contains 1 quart of water.  Boil for 30 mins before straining out the tea and drink throughout the day.  Do this for 2-3 weeks, then stop for 7-10 days before repeating the cycle again.

 

Apple Cider Vinegar

 

Apple cider vinegar contains potassium which can help prevent build-up of calcium in the joints which can ultimately lead to joint stiffness.  It is believed that arthritis joint pain can be related to accumulated toxins in the joints as a result of metabolic waste being often stored in connective tissues.  Apple cider vinegar contains pectin which helps to absorb toxins and remove them from out systems.  At the same time the acids in the cider vinegar helps purify and detoxify the body.  There are a few ways on how to use it:

  1. Simply apply the apple cider vinegar directly on the affected joint to relieve arthritis joint pain
     

  2. Make a soothing ointment by mixing 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 1 tablespoon of olive or coconut oil.  Then just use the ointment to rub directly onto the affected joints
     

  3. Make a foot or hand soak by mixing apple cider vinegar to warm water in a ratio of 1:6.
     

  4. Mix 1-3 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with 8 oz of water.  Sweeten with some honey.  Stir thoroughly and drink 3 times a day before meals.

Artichokes

 

Artichokes are diuretic and has the ability to eliminate bile, hence they are able to detoxify and be effective against osteoarthritis.  Place about 5 grams of artichoke leaves into 1 liter of water.  Boil for about 5-10 mins.  Remove from heat and let it cool down.  Add some honey to remove the bitter taste of burdock.  Drink 1 cup with your meals.

 

Bananas

 

Bananas contains vitamin B6 which is also effective as arthritis treatments.  Eating only bananas for 3-4 days and nothing else can be helpful in treating arthritis.

 

Corn and Millet

 

Corn and millet are very suitable to be make into hot compresses that can stay hot for a really long time.  Hot compress applied on the painful joints can help to stimulate blood circulation resulting in greater increased blood flow.  This can help in providing relief for arthritis joint pain.  Boil some corn and millet in 1 liter of water.  Soak some clean white cotton into the hot brew, squeeze the water out and apply the cloth to the affected area.

 

Garlic

 

Garlic contains anti-inflammatory properties and therefore is also effective as treatment for arthritis.  Just simply take the garlic either raw or cooked whichever way you prefer.

 

Lime

 

Lime contains citric acid which is a solvent for uric acid, a primary cause for some forms of arthritis.  Take 1 lime, squeeze the juice out and mix with water to dilute it.  Drink the lime juice 1st thing in the morning.

 

Mustard

 

A poultice made from mustard is very effective in providing relief from arthritis joint pain and increasing blood flow through the affected joints.  Crush some mustard seeds into powder.  Mix them with water.  Add some egg whites or flour to thicken the paste.  Apply the mustard poultice with a warm rag to the affected area.  Apply for only a few minutes then quickly remove it to avoid from feeling the burning sensation that the mustard can induce.

 

Potato

 

Raw potato juice has been found to be effective treatments for rheumatic and arthritic symptoms.  Cut a potato into thin slices without removing the skin.  Place them in a container and fill up with cold water.  Leave them overnight.  Drink the raw potato water in the morning on an empty stomach.

 

Sesame seeds

 

Sesame seeds are good in preventing arthritis joint pains.  Put 1 teaspoon of black sesame seeds into 1/4 cup of water.  Let it soak overnight.  Eat both the soaked seeds together with the water in the morning on an empty stomach.

 

Turmeric

 

Turmeric is a mild herb with very low toxicity.  It is used largely as a common food spice.  Turmeric has found to be able to provide pain relief to a sore knee which has acute inflammation. 

  1. Put 4 tablespoons of turmeric powder into water, stir well and drink
     

  2. Make a paste by mixing the 4 tablespoons of turmeric powder with some honey or some oatmeal.  Apply the paste to the affected joint area.
